Q. I need references on the history of treatment of emotional and behavioral disorders in the public school system.

I'm writing a research paper that focuses on the evolution of how the education system has recognized/ treated those with emotional and/or behavior disorders... help please!

There are a couple of approaches you could take to get started:

Go to Education Research Complete (if you are off campus you'll be prompted to log in with your Curry username/passwork -- the same one you use for email & Blackboard). I tried the following search terms and had some luck finding articles:

      emotional-behavioral disorders

      public schools

I would also recommend using those terms to search Primo and ebrary for books and e-books. If you don't find enough using the above terms, try changing "public schools" to "education".

It might also be useful to look for resources on "history of special education" and "public schools" and once you identify resources, search within those resources for "emotional and behavioral disorders".

The challenge appears to be finding information on the historical aspect of this subject. What I am finding so far relates to application and practice, rather than review of "how we got here".

I know you plan to meet with a librarian (Evelyn Ugwu-George) tomorrow at 10 AM; I will forward this information to her, and to Mary Ryan, the liaison for Education.

Best of luck,
