Q. I am looking for articles, studies, research on the history of marriage...reasons, etc.

Hi, I am doing a Senior Seminar paper on Marriage. I basically am looking for any articles, studies, research on the history of marriage, reasons for divorce, statistics, reasons for marriage, how the tradition of marriage conflicts with modern independence, the history of marriage and how it wasn't for love, etc.
My paper is basically about how the tradition of marriage is doomed when paired with modern sense of independence and self-absorption, as well as how people still don't marry for love, otherwise- they would not need to get married to prove they loved each other.

Answer

Hi Kristin,

This is an involved paper.  There are numerous places to find information and I don't know where you have already looked.  We can search in EBSCO using both PsycINO, PsycBOOKS, PsycARTICLES and SOCINDEX simultaneously with the search terms marriage AND Purposeor REASONS or psychological aspects.

There could also be ebooks which have chapters as well as

the International Encyclopedia of Marriage and Family

Please call us at x2167 or come by for additional help.

Best,

mary
